I've been working as a designer and art director for web
and print for more than 10 years. I also used to write music a long
time ago - orchestral
things that were pretty abstract. Although I still work
with sound, at some
point I would like to write again. I don't play the piano
anymore (I mean, who
has a piano in their cramped NYC aprtment? If you do, lucky you) but I will
sometimes pick up the guitar or the ukulele. For now, however, I have returned mainly to the visual: graphic design, interactive design, video, sewing, knitting and making handmade books, just to name a few. Lately, I've felt the strong need to make three dimensional things. I want to break out of flat space.
I grew up in NYC and still live here, aside from living in the Pacific Northwest
for 5 years. I'll probably stick around for awhile, because really, where else would I
go? The frenetic energy of the city drives me crazy but I've found that I can't live without it. Sometimes I think I'm full of contradictions like that: I love good design, but I sometimes hate to design. I love to eat, but I'm too lazy to cook. I love
having a car so I can get out of brooklyn, but I don't like to drive.
The one thing I know for sure is...I like to make things.
