it really feels like summer now

Hard to believe it’s mid-July and we’ve not yet had a proper heatwave here in NY. Hell, even the humidity is under control. Remember how unbelievably frigid cold it was this winter in the city? This summer is also abnormal, devoid of the usual suffocating humidity and heat. It’s even been downright cool in the evenings. Weird. This weekend felt like summer though - not necessarily in temperature, but in activity. We drove to Montclair, NJ saturday afternoon for a barbeque hosted by one of my twitter friends (fogandthistle) where I met 4 more twitter peeps (littlebrownpen, wordsatplay, cicadastudio and vertigodesign) who live in the area. We brought cupcakes, ice cream, sorbet and s’mores along with a blow torch to toast the treats up. What does it say that my girls were the only ones who licked and slurped their plates of ice cream? (hmmm…maybe I need to revisit table manners).
Sunday was spent at a pool birthday party in a Brooklyn backyard. In a total 180 from last summer, Claudine has fallen in love with the water and she could have floated around in that hot pink inner tube all afternoon if we let her. The water was cold, but the kids stayed in the pool, lips purple, teeth chattering, till we had to coax them out with the embrace of warm towels. The adults sat around in lawn chairs watching the kids and shooting the shit. Summer as it’s meant to be.

Who are we?
