shopping in the bronx
Having my own business is sure to take me to many new places. The Bronx, for example. I’ve previously only been there to visit the zoo and change a flat tire, but as of now, I’ll be visiting more often as I am now an official customer of Dairyland, the Chef’s Warehouse. This is a company that I have dealt with extensively during my restaurant days. They have all the high-quality ingredients that I need at a fraction of the retail price that I have been paying. The only catch is that I have to pick it up myself because my orders aren’t big enough to send on a delivery truck. But hey, it’s only a 35 minute car ride (with no traffic), there are some nice views from Hunts Point, and I get to see some old friends from Dairyland each time I make a pickup. I’ve only spoken to some of these people on the phone and actually met them in person for the first time the other day. I even got a nice tour of the warehouse. The highlight was definitely the chocolate room. It is temperature controlled with multiple sensors on each wall. If the temperature gets too high, the room actually goes into lockdown, so nobody can enter until the proper temperature is restored. The smell inside this room was amazing - there’s nothing like smelling all your favorite chocolates in large quantities at the same time.
