a cooking party for a birthday

Mark led a really fun cooking party for our neighbor’s 5th birthday party this weekend. He brought over already rolled slabs of cookie dough, a ton of mini-cookie cutters, sprinkles and confetti. The kids, all between the ages of 2-6, were so creative with their cookies and seemed to have a great time making little treats that then went into the oven marked with their name, and into goodie bags to take home after the party. Next activity had the kids assembling their own individual pizzas - bowls of sauce, cheese and toppings were passed around the table and yes, I think some of the kids weren’t really thinking that they’d be eating these as they piled on loads and loads of broccoli.
Mark did a lot of prep work at home, rolling and chilling the cookie dough, chopping and slicing all the toppings and pre-baking the pizza doughs so that the activities ran smoothly (we ARE talking about 12, hyped up party kids here), but the party was so lovely and the kids were so excited to make their own food. And the birthday cake? 3 very tall layers of dark chocolate cake filled with chocolate pudding and frosted with vanilla buttercream. OMG, this might be my favorite cake at the moment.
