sunday in the park

Like most New Yorkers, we rarely do any of the touristy stuff - I haven’t been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building since I was a kid, for example, but every once in a while we get the urge to see the city as the tourists do. Both Mark and I had the same idea to spend Labor Day Sunday in Central Park. It’s not a huge change of scenery for Mark since he still drops in at the Boathouse Restaurant once a week to make sure the pastry kitchen has what it needs, but despite living near Prospect Park in Brooklyn, which is modeled after Central Park by the same architects but on a smaller scale, it’s nice to take the kids to the big park in the city. We saw snow monkeys, penguins and a white polar bear at the zoo, had a picnic with our neighbors Ed and Christine and their kids, and watched toy boats sail around at the boat pond. I can’t recall seeing the park so crowded. The city seemed brimming with people because of the US Open and the holiday weekend. It’s nice to see all this activity after a seemingly sleepy August.

Who are we?
